This two-year program consists of ten courses (30 credits total). Students must complete at least one course in three out of the four Political Science disciplines: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Politics, and Political Theory. Each semester, students enroll in three courses.
The program permits two courses from other departments. To fulfill degree requirements, students must pass a comprehensive exam covering two subfields. Alternatively, those who opt for a thesis only need to complete eight courses and are exempt from the comprehensive exam. Another option is Advanced Directive Study (ADS), where students work with a faculty advisor to develop a final paper project based on previous seminar work, serving as an alternative to both the thesis and comprehensive exam.
