The Master of Arts in Latin program mandates completion of ten graduate-level Latin courses (totaling 30 credits), an independent reading list, proof of competency in a modern foreign language (typically French or German), and successful performance on comprehensive written and oral exams. Graduate students typically have access to four courses annually. Participants in this program may enhance their studies by enrolling in courses at consortium institutions (Boston University, Brandeis University, Tufts University) or opt for a three-year part-time degree path. While consortium courses qualify for tuition benefits, they require prior approval from Boston College faculty.
Students must have a bachelor's degree and undergraduate course work in calculus, physics, biochemistry, biology and chemistry, including organic chemistry. Applicants whose native language is not English must achieve a TOEFL score of 600 or better (paper-based test), or 250 or better in (computer-based test).
