Early in their studies, management students discover that accounting serves as the "business world's universal language." More precisely, accounting offers the critical data needed to assess both current operations and future strategies of complex organizations. It equips learners to deliver varied services across private, corporate, and governmental sectors. Accounting professionals hone expertise in areas like auditing, tax strategy, financial control, advisory services, and digital information systems.

Expanding upon the CSOM foundational courses, this specialization teaches financial statement users (rather than creators) to evaluate how regulated accounting data can both reveal and obscure a company's true economic health. It develops essential abilities for numerous business careers, including financial evaluation, investment services, strategic consulting, market analysis, and leadership development programs.

Organizations consistently prize graduates who comprehend both commercial operations and their supporting digital infrastructure. While IT specialists focus on building business systems, accountants grasp overall processes, controls, and how systems produce decision-making insights. Combining these competencies proves extremely valuable. Completing this concentration meets all IS requirements while adding accounting knowledge. The six-course program (five mandatory plus one accounting elective) prepares students for roles in consulting firms, corporate IT divisions, or systems auditing. Faculty advisors can help select suitable accounting electives. This joint program is overseen by both the Accounting and Information Systems departments.
