The AADS major requires a minimum of 31 credits, equating to at least 10 full-semester courses. Students pursuing an AADS major may combine it with a second major, provided they adhere to the University's policy mandating that at least 27 credits in the primary major cannot be applied toward another major or minor. Alongside completing AADS 1110 "Introduction to African Diaspora Studies" (3 credits) and AADS 6600 "Senior Seminar" (4 credits), majors must take 8 additional elective courses, with a maximum of two at the 1000-level. Among these electives, four must focus on the Black Atlantic—courses that adopt a global perspective, connecting different regions of the African Diaspora.
