The English Department at Baylor University provides Master's and Doctoral degrees in English and American literature, with comprehensive instruction across all key historical eras while emphasizing literary aesthetics and critical analysis. The graduate program has long maintained particular distinction in literature and religious studies. Our distinguished faculty are dedicated to equipping students for diverse post-graduation paths, including academic careers, further graduate study, or alternative professional opportunities. The Literature & Religion Certificate stands as an innovative interdisciplinary initiative that merges sophisticated literary examination with structured theological education. Faculty members actively engage with and support inquiries into the connections between faith and scholarship. While appearing interdisciplinary, this program fundamentally remains an English degree. Recent student research has examined works by Evelyn Waugh, George MacDonald, Flannery O'Connor, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and the impact of Reformation theology on English literary traditions.
