The English Department at Baylor University awards both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English and American literature, providing comprehensive education across all significant historical eras with an emphasis on literary analysis and aesthetic appreciation. The graduate program maintains a longstanding tradition of excellence in literature and religious studies. Our distinguished faculty are dedicated to equipping students for diverse post-graduation paths, including academic careers, further graduate studies, or alternative academic opportunities. British literature specialties span from medieval to contemporary works, covering everything from Shakespeare to Seamus Heaney. Baylor has emerged as a hub for Victorian studies, largely thanks to our Armstrong-Browning Library, which specializes in Browning's poetry and 19th-century research. Recent graduates have focused on areas like Irish literature, Old English texts, Milton and his contemporaries, Romanticism, and British modernist works. The department offers an extensive selection of courses covering fiction, drama, prose, and poetry.
