Social and environmental justice represents a perspective, a philosophy, and a value system concerning fairness in shaping our physical surroundings. This framework for spatial and societal examination and creation actively considers factors like exclusion, prejudice, human worth, and unequal treatment. Through our interdisciplinary 12-credit program, you'll gain the skills to evaluate how design choices affect community members, especially those traditionally left out of planning discussions. We view justice as authentic regard for individuals, and our interpretation of design-focused social and environmental justice reflects a profound commitment to recognizing both the beneficial and harmful consequences design can have on varied groups, including those historically underserved by architectural and planning practices.
