Ball State's bachelor of arts/bachelor of science (BA/BS) in theatre education is built on the conviction that theatre can transform lives. Our program pushes you to refine your artistic perspective while equipping you with the tools to educate, motivate, and nurture future theatre practitioners. The theatre education coursework at Ball State readies you to manage your own theatre program and excel as an educator from the very start. You'll build comprehensive expertise in acting, theatrical design, technical production, play analysis, and theatre history—preparing you for every aspect of secondary school theatre instruction and production. A robust liberal arts foundation complements your studies. With exclusively undergraduate classes, you'll gain frequent hands-on teaching and directing experience early in your academic journey. The program emphasizes developing strong communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills for educational settings. You'll enroll in education courses through Ball State's renowned Teachers College, alongside immersive learning experiences that foster interdisciplinary collaboration and community-engaged projects.
You should apply as a freshman undergraduate student if:
you have completed or will complete high school or secondary school before the semester you apply to start
you have not attended a university, college, or other postsecondary institution
you wish to earn a bachelor’s degree
