The Legal Studies Program is ideal for students pursuing careers in the legal field, whether in government, public law, or corporate law. Among over 1,000 paralegal programs nationwide, Ball State's stands out as one of fewer than 300 accredited by the American Bar Association. Legal Studies students explore diverse practice areas such as family law, civil and criminal litigation, dispute resolution, constitutional law, and business law, gaining both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills for professional success. This major also serves as a strong preparatory path for future law school applicants. The curriculum combines the University Core Curriculum with specialized legal studies courses, followed by concentration-specific classes in either Public Law or Business Law. All Legal Studies students complete an internship, working alongside experienced attorneys and paralegals. Opting for the Business Law track suits those fascinated by corporate structures, insurance, finance, accounting, or law firm management. The program thoroughly examines how legal principles apply to routine business operations.
