Theater possesses the power to spark conversations, shift viewpoints, and drive societal transformation. At Auburn University's Department of Theatre and Dance, we focus on cultivating theater professionals, academics, and engaged audiences within a liberal arts framework. Our program emphasizes the dynamic relationship between academic study and practical application, nurturing civic-minded artists who promote the arts through their creative endeavors across local, national, and global platforms. Auburn's theater students develop critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and teamwork skills, applying their learning from studios and lecture halls to performance venues, university settings, and communities around the world. Graduates from our Theatre and Dance programs pursue diverse careers as performers, technical specialists, arts administrators, community organizers, and educators. We offer comprehensive training and performance opportunities for all students passionate about theater arts, regardless of their major. This includes extensive coursework, hands-on workshops, and stage experiences covering acting, directing, devised theater, musical theater, dance, set and lighting design, costume creation, technical theater, construction techniques, theater history, play analysis, musical theater studies, critique writing, and arts administration.
