Theater possesses the power to spark conversations, transform viewpoints, and drive societal progress. At Auburn University's Department of Theatre and Dance, we focus on educating and professionally preparing theater practitioners, academics, and audiences within a liberal arts framework. Our program emphasizes the dynamic relationship between theory and application, cultivating engaged artists who promote the arts through their creative endeavors across local, national, and global communities. Auburn's theater students develop critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and collaborative skills, applying their learning from studios and lecture halls to performance venues, university settings, and communities around the world. The Department provides both a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre. The BA program suits students pursuing theater studies within a broad liberal arts education, ideal for those interested in theater as an academic discipline or specializing in areas like theater history, criticism, education, dramatic literature, dramaturgy, directing, and various creative fields. This degree also serves as strong preparation for advanced study or diverse creative careers. The BFA program caters to students with defined professional aspirations, offering intensive training in specialized concentrations including performance, musical theater, design/technology, or management. Additionally, the Department provides two Minor options in Theatre and Dance.
