The Bachelor of Arts in Art with a Formal Option in Art History equips students for graduate-level studies (MA or PhD) in art history and professional opportunities in museums, galleries, auction houses, and cultural organizations. This program strongly focuses on cultivating essential abilities in writing, analytical reasoning, critical assessment, detailed observation, and oral communication—skills vital not just for art historians but also beneficial for careers in fields like communications, law, education, business, and healthcare. The Art History program provides students with comprehensive exposure to global artistic traditions, spanning from ancient times to the contemporary era, while exploring diverse interpretive approaches and historical methodologies. The coursework includes a two-semester (6 credit) overview of world art, followed by specialized 3-credit courses in four key areas: Ancient and Medieval Art, Renaissance and Baroque Art, Modern and Contemporary Art, and Non-Western Art. Students additionally select 15 credits of advanced electives and seminars before completing their studies with a 3-credit Senior Capstone project. This culminating experience involves studying art historical research methods while developing a substantial academic paper and public presentation.
