The sports journalism field is experiencing rapid expansion across all media platforms, including digital outlets, television networks, radio broadcasts, podcasts, and various team/league online channels and social media.
At the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Master's program in sports journalism offers a comprehensive 36-credit, three-semester curriculum designed to thoroughly prepare students for careers in sports media and communications.
The program starts with an immersive multimedia course that trains students in producing sports content for television, digital, and print media. Students then select specialized courses covering sports reporting, video production, podcast creation, live event coverage, commentary, feature writing, documentary filmmaking, and gain practical experience through sports bureaus in Phoenix and Los Angeles. Throughout the program, students explore ethical considerations in sports journalism and industry challenges, guided by the professional values exemplified by Walter Cronkite.
