The Chinese graduate program at the School of International Letters and Cultures provides an MA degree with specialization options in either cultural studies (encompassing literature, linguistics, and religion) or language pedagogy.
These two academic tracks equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in Chinese-speaking settings while developing cultural awareness. Both specializations also cover essential aspects of Sinology and East Asian studies, laying groundwork for future academic, teaching, or career opportunities.
The cultural studies concentration offers rigorous training that enables students to master spoken, listening, and conversational Mandarin Chinese, along with proficiency in classical Chinese literature.
The pedagogy track caters to students aiming to teach modern Chinese across educational levels from kindergarten through college. This program emphasizes communicative and task-oriented teaching methods within relevant cultural frameworks, while also building expertise in Chinese reading/writing instruction, phonetics, and language structure.
