The curriculum emphasizes both independent and collaborative research, technology design, intensive internships, and core competencies in writing, mathematics, and programming.
Administered by the Interplanetary Initiative, this interdisciplinary major combines student-directed classroom education with practical project work. In inquiry-based courses, learners employ a novel inquiry cycle to investigate profound questions related to human civilization and space exploration. Sample inquiries might include: What will lunar environments become after human colonization, and How can we establish and maintain biological systems for human life in space? In practical courses, students utilize technical design methodologies with software and laboratory equipment to develop physical prototypes, digital innovations, or service models that tackle intricate problems in science and technology.
Furthermore, comprehensive internships enable students to implement academic knowledge toward research initiatives or real-world problems, while acquiring meaningful professional experience prior to completing their degree.
