The biomedical sciences concentration is designed for students enrolled in the BS program in biological sciences who are aiming for careers in medicine, healthcare professions, or biomedical research within academic, clinical, or industry environments.
The curriculum is structured to meet the comprehensive scientific competencies outlined in a report by the American Medical Colleges and the Howard Hughes Medical Committee, which also influenced the 2015 updates to the Medical College Admission Test. Course offerings integrate elements from the school's genetics, cell and developmental biology focus, as well as the neurobiology, physiology and behavior specialization, supplemented with classes in biology and medicine and society. This concentration highlights the essential chemistry, biochemistry, mathematics, and physics courses needed to equip students for the MCAT and medical school entry. It underscores fundamental concepts, competencies, and vital intellectual abilities crucial for success in medical school or biomedical research.
You’re considered a first-year student if you graduated from a regionally accredited high school or earned your GED, and you never attended college or have fewer than 12 transferable college credit hours.
First-year students must have a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) (a "B" or better where "A"=4.00) from a secondary school.
