Dive into a musical setting where your creativity and passion for teamwork shine through diverse performance opportunities. Our curriculum blends two years of intensive solo piano study with two years of collaborative piano training. The BMus performance program with a collaborative piano focus provides private lessons in both solo and ensemble piano, faculty-guided coaching for chamber music, vocal works, opera, and musical theater pieces, plus engagements with large ensembles and choral groups. This comprehensive preparation culminates in dynamic collaborative performances across disciplines, including partnerships with dance and theater artists.
Collaborative piano students frequently perform alongside vocalists and instrumentalists at ASU venues and across the Phoenix metropolitan area, including the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Kerr Cultural Center, Tempe Center for the Arts, and the celebrated Musical Instrument Museum.
The program emphasizes essential repertoire in art song, piano chamber works, opera, and musical theater. Cross-departmental collaboration within the School of Music, Dance and Theatre spans all performance disciplines, featuring work with music theater and opera productions, ensemble and choir concerts, instrumental and vocal duo recitals, and chamber music performances through the Visiting Quartet Residency initiative.
