The sports media sector stands as one of the most rapidly expanding areas within the media landscape, experiencing sustained growth across digital platforms, television networks, radio programs, podcasts, and official team/league websites and social media channels.
At the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Bachelor's program in sports journalism provides exceptional training for careers in sports media through specialized courses covering sports writing, photography, strategic communications, broadcast reporting, live production, play-by-play commentary, and sports marketing initiatives.
Throughout the sports journalism degree, students gain hands-on professional experience through internships with organizations ranging from professional teams like the Diamondbacks and Suns to ASU athletics, as well as media powerhouses including ESPN and Fox Sports. Students also engage in immersive learning opportunities, working with sports clients through the Cronkite Agency or reporting from sports bureaus in Phoenix and Los Angeles, where they cover major professional leagues and collegiate athletics.
