The Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAE) program specializing in secondary earth and space sciences equips future educators to teach grades 6-12. Combining rigorous scientific content with innovative teaching methods, this program emphasizes technological integration and hands-on professional development to cultivate effective classroom instruction.
Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College employs a collaborative model for teacher training, where students gain practical experience through internships and residencies while working alongside peers under the mentorship of ASU faculty and certified educators. This team-based approach fosters professional growth and prepares educators to meet both academic and social-emotional learning needs. Field experiences bridge theory and practice, giving students repeated opportunities to implement coursework concepts in real classroom settings.
The program structure includes progressive internships culminating in a full-semester teaching residency. Guided by experienced mentors and university faculty, participants apply their knowledge in authentic educational environments.
Upon completion, graduates receive both a bachelor's degree in their discipline and an ASU institutional recommendation for Arizona Secondary Education (6-12) certification. Certification requirements include passing either the National Evaluation Series or Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments professional knowledge examination.
