Every single moment, each passing day, and through every individual, educators spark intellectual curiosity and build stronger communities. The Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College provides programs that combine academic learning with hands-on training, equipping you to ask insightful questions, adapt to challenges, and create meaningful change. The BAE programs in secondary education train future teachers to educate students in grades 6-12. Candidates build a solid theoretical foundation in their subject areas while education courses hone the practical skills needed for classroom success. This program includes Structured English Immersion training, qualifying graduates for an endorsement to teach English language learners, along with comprehensive training in incorporating technology into education.
Secondary education professional pathway programs integrate clinical experience during junior and senior years. The core objective of these experiences is to give students repeated chances to apply ASU coursework knowledge in real 6-12 grade classrooms. Students at Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College participate in weekly internships during their junior year and first senior semester. The final semester features a full-time teaching residency. Faculty from the college and expert educators from partner schools jointly mentor interns and residents throughout these required professional experiences. This hands-on training allows students to engage directly with young learners and contribute to measurable academic progress. Additionally, students collaborate with peers in subject-specific and cross-disciplinary teams. This immersive, practical approach to teacher development produces graduates in high demand.
Those who complete the program and wish to teach in public schools must pass Arizona's educator certification exam to teach within the state.
