Tackling global poverty and inequality demands skilled individuals dedicated to driving and guiding transformation. The Master of Science in Development Management (MSDM) at the School of International Service is an intensive program designed to equip professionals for leadership and managerial positions across communities, governments, businesses, and organizations focused on creating positive global impact. MSDM blends practical competencies typical of traditional MS programs—including project management, economics, and quantitative research methods—with an ethically grounded, interdisciplinary, and theoretically robust perspective on development. Students gain expertise in management, leadership, and research, with special emphasis on interconnected challenges like poverty reduction, environmental conservation, social justice, and worldwide health.
As the sole master of science program at the School of International Service, the MSDM requires completion of 3942 graduate-level credit hours, featuring a mandatory 6-credit capstone called the Management Practicum. This culminating project can be undertaken domestically or internationally, with adaptable scheduling to accommodate diverse student needs. The MSDM program offers flexible completion timelines, ranging from two years for full-time students to up to six years for part-time participants.
