Presented by the Department of Chemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences, the Biochemistry (BS) program caters to students fascinated by the molecular foundations of life and the creation of novel compounds to improve human health and societal wellbeing. Graduates with this major will gain strong preparation for careers in industry or advanced studies in graduate programs and medical fields.
The Biochemistry degree offers two focused tracks: Biochemistry and Medical Biochemistry. The Biochemistry track focuses on the chemical examination of biological compounds (proteins, DNA, RNA, lipids, etc.) and the development of pharmaceutical agents. Students who complete this track earn an American Chemical Society-certified degree. The Medical Biochemistry track emphasizes the clinical significance of biological molecules and their therapeutic applications, offering more extensive training in subjects pertinent to medical education.
