The MFA Costume Design program equips graduates with essential technical abilities and hands-on experience to refine their skills in professional production settings. Through a comprehensive sewing curriculum paired with specialized design classes, students gain the expertise needed to thrive in various theater and film roles. Participants will design costumes for both short and feature films, working alongside directors, fellow designers, and actors to develop wardrobe that enhances the storytelling. Graduates will master problem-solving techniques and achieve proficiency in sewing, pattern making, draping, and specialized areas such as hat-making, tutu construction, and jewelry crafting. Each student completes a culminating thesis project and portfolio demonstrating their versatility in designing and crafting garments and specialty pieces.
