The Master of Science in Unmanned Aircraft System Technology prepares future professionals with comprehensive expertise to safely and lawfully design, build, and operate Small Unmanned Aircraft (SUA) weighing up to 20kg maximum takeoff mass in the UK.

Commonly known as drones, SUAs are transforming civil applications across industries, with this rapidly expanding sector projected to generate billions in revenue within the next decade. These systems are reshaping practices from agricultural monitoring to cinematic production, while enabling advanced data collection for diverse research and operational needs.

This program tackles the current expertise gap in this emerging field, welcoming students from all academic backgrounds seeking to integrate drone technology into their studies, as well as professionals from any sector, whether employed or entrepreneurs.

Acquire competencies in data collection and analysis across multiple disciplines, master the regulatory and safety protocols for sophisticated drone usage, and gain hands-on experience in mission planning and real-world operations.
Practical flight training will be delivered through our specialized drone simulator and conducted at our exclusive outdoor testing facility.

Qualification Requirements

Normal entry requirements for full time and part time intake will be one of: A Bachelor of Engineering Honours Degree, or other Bachelor Honours Degree, normally with an honour’s degree with at least a 2:2 classification or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline. Applicants who do not meet the minimum entry requirement but have substantial professional experience in a relevant specialist area may be accepted, subject to interview and references. Equivalent qualifications of another overseas country which are deemed satisfactory by the program team. Normally, the applicants applied through entry points (b) and (c) will be required to attend for an interview. This is not always possible, e.g., overseas students, in which case the application form and ‘home’ tutor’s recommendations will be used to decide suitability; phone, internet and video conferencing may also be used. Places on the programmes will be offered based on applicants’ background qualifications and, where appropriate, experiences.
