Our Master of Arts in Music (research-based) is perfect for those who wish to pursue independent study through a research project, with expert supervision in their selected field.
This program aims to support you in creating innovative, experimental music that pushes boundaries through sound. We welcome candidates motivated by modern applications of digital and analog media, rather than replicating traditional musique concrète or acousmatic approaches.
Applicants should possess solid understanding of current trends in contemporary electro-acoustic music. Additional familiarity with areas like data analysis, collaborative sourcing, urban renewal, global digital communities, hacking technologies, analog systems, algorithmic composition, visual projection techniques, graphic design, or programming is beneficial.
You have the flexibility to create interdisciplinary work that blends different media or focus on minimalist aesthetics and emerging post-postmodern approaches. Your projects may incorporate any mix of digital or traditional instruments and methods. While strong technical proficiency in your chosen software is expected, specialized support is available for programming needs (MaxMsp, Pd, C, iOS) from our dedicated Research Support programmer.
