This cutting-edge program enhances our standing as one of the UK's premier art history departments.
You'll explore art history while gaining essential curatorial skills applicable in museums, galleries, cultural venues, heritage sites, and even non-art institutions. Field trips may provide hands-on experience with artworks in their institutional contexts.
You'll have access to work with the University's Art Collection.
First-year students can opt for language courses designed specifically for art history students. The curriculum offers diverse modules covering art history fundamentals and various curatorial approaches for museums and galleries. Collaborative exhibition planning and art institution placements are key components. Our extensive network includes local, national, and international arts organizations, heritage sites, and third-sector partners, extending beyond traditional gallery spaces to include country estates, religious buildings, and legal institutions.
Selected modules may incorporate field visits to study art and architecture firsthand. While we fund major travel and lodging expenses, students are responsible for local transit, meals, and admission fees.
