The University of Worcester is an accredited institution offering the Professional Policing Degree, a program certified by the College of Policing. As policing evolves into a graduate-level profession, we provide this specialized qualification to facilitate the pre-join degree (PPD) pathway into police forces across England and Wales (one of three available entry routes). This degree aligns with modern policing standards and serves as the official qualification for students exploring pre-join police service options.
While primarily tailored for those pursuing policing careers through the PPD pathway, this program also benefits students aiming for related fields such as the National Crime Agency, probation services, military policing, private security, government roles, local authorities, financial institutions, and other sectors requiring investigative or legal expertise. The qualification remains valid for five years post-graduation for PPD policing recruitment.
The curriculum covers essential policing areas including emergency response, community policing, safeguarding vulnerable groups, and criminal investigations. Students will examine policing frameworks through an evidence-based lens, developing research-informed critical thinking for operational decisions and police work. The program teaches criminological theories to analyze crime prevention, offender behavior, and victimology, demonstrating their application in England and Wales' justice system. Through realistic policing simulations while wearing official uniforms, students gain hands-on experience applying their knowledge in practical scenarios.
