Pharmacology explores how drugs interact with living organisms, examining their effects and mechanisms. This program is designed to equip students with the expertise needed for pharmaceutical careers and laboratory research. Why pursue this program
The curriculum focuses on:Developing skilled pharmacology professionals with comprehensive knowledge for pharmaceutical careers or scientific research.Grounding students in core chemical and biological principles relevant to pharmacology.Understanding normal and pathological bodily functions, disease biology (including causes and patterns), and drug processes like absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination (pharmacokinetics). Students will also study drug mechanisms, interactions, side effects, precautions, contraindications (pharmacodynamics), misuse, and therapeutic applications.Key program highlights
Recognized by the Royal Society of Biology
Cutting-edge laboratory resources
Innovative learning environments featuring simulated pharmacy and clinical spacesProgram structure
First Year establishes foundational knowledge in molecular biology, microbiology, and human anatomy essential for understanding drug effects. Two dedicated pharmacology modules are included, alongside skill-building for scientific reasoning and independent analysis. Second Year delves deeper into drug development processes, both historical and contemporary. Students acquire laboratory techniques crucial for drug testing while examining pharmacological applications. This year also explores pharmacodynamic principles, cellular processes, genetics, and drug mechanisms. Third Year centers on an independent research project comprising one-third of the curriculum. The remaining coursework advances into specialized areas like pharmaceutical biotechnology, molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, and biochemical pharmacology, with hands-on laboratory experience in modern research techniques.
