While other UK institutions offer separate BSc programs in Forensic Science or Policing, this combined program appears unique at present. We've designed this course for students passionate about Forensic Science who aspire to careers in either forensic or law enforcement sectors.Professionals with dual expertise - whether forensic specialists knowledgeable about police protocols or law enforcement officers with forensic training - often hold competitive advantages in interdisciplinary roles where forensics and policing intersect. The BSc Forensic Science with Policing curriculum integrates essential policing modules throughout each semester alongside carefully chosen forensic science components, maintaining approximately 66% forensic science content. This balanced approach creates two primary career pathways:Firstly, graduates can pursue traditional laboratory science roles, including forensic analysis positions where understanding police procedures facilitates better communication with law enforcement and legal professionals. Secondly, opportunities exist in policing or crime scene investigation roles.A forensically-trained police officer represents a valuable asset to law enforcement, particularly given the current shortage of detectives, potentially offering graduates a pathway into investigative work.Additionally, graduates may explore diverse career or further education options including science education, postgraduate studies (MSc/PhD), or various fields entered by our alumni such as trading standards, occupational health and safety, or accident investigation.
