This program delivers top-tier training and subject expertise for aspiring secondary school English teachers. You'll gain advanced English knowledge at degree level while qualifying for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - the essential certification for teaching in state secondary schools. The course combines English studies at our Wolverhampton campus with educational training at Walsall Campus, plus over 120 days of school placements across the three-year duration. Trainees develop skills to teach English to students aged 11-16, with additional exposure to primary and post-16 teaching methods.
The English curriculum addresses National Curriculum requirements including Shakespeare and poetry studies, while offering exploration of diverse literary works from medieval to postcolonial eras. Each year of the three-year program includes English Language/Linguistics modules, ensuring comprehensive training in both literary and linguistic aspects of the discipline.
This program meets all Department for Education requirements for Initial Teacher Training courses.
