The Psychology MSc is a conversion program approved by the British Psychological Society (BPS), tailored for graduates seeking a psychology career who require the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC). No prior psychology background is necessary, though applicants should be aware this is a demanding program requiring dedicated full-time study beyond scheduled classes. We encourage applications from graduates with upper second-class honors degrees, whether from non-psychology disciplines or those lacking sufficient psychology credits for GBC eligibility. The curriculum includes mandatory Master's-level modules in BPS-specified psychology core areas, plus one elective psychology module. A workplace experience option is available for those seeking practical exposure. Our program addresses all BPS-required GBC domains: biological, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology; individual differences; conceptual/historical issues; research methods; and empirical projects. Each module emphasizes rigorous analysis of theories and practices. Professional Recognition This Master's holds BPS accreditation, granting GBC eligibility upon achieving a minimum 50% overall pass mark and successful empirical project completion - the initial requirement for Chartered Psychologist status. The Psychology MSc's GBC qualification opens pathways to specialized psychology careers. Career Pathways Advanced Training Our alumni have progressed to various BPS-accredited programs including: Clinical Psychology (Doctorate) Counseling Psychology (Doctorate) Educational Psychology (Doctorate) Forensic Psychology (MSc) Health Psychology (MSc) Occupational Psychology (MSc) Sport Psychology (MSc) Professional Opportunities Graduates qualify for diverse roles such as: Assistant psychologist Children's mental health specialist Academic instructor Mental health practitioner Research associate
A minimum of an upper second class honours degree (2:1). Applicants with a lower second class honours degree (2:2) may be considered in exceptional circumstances if their first degree is over 10 years old and they have gained significant professional experience since then. Alternatively, applicants with a postgraduate certificate (e.g. PGCE) will also be considered.
As statistical procedures are a key element of Psychology, we require applicants to demonstrate competence in mathematics, for example through having obtained GSCE mathematics (or equivalent). We also encourage applicants to provide evidence of interest in the discipline of psychology and reflection on the ways that their experience to date would enable them to succeed at the Masters level. If your first language is not English you should have an IELTS 7.0 overall with 6.5 in all components. Two references are required from all candidates. TOEFL: 92 overall with a minimum of 20 in Listening, 24 in Writing, 19 in Reading and 20 in Speaking.
