Our MSc in Global Public Health Nutrition equips you with specialized scientific knowledge and practical expertise to actively contribute to public health nutrition initiatives worldwide. Nutrition remains a critical factor influencing health outcomes across both developed and developing nations, with evolving nutritional challenges emerging globally.
While malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies persist in many regions, economically transitioning countries now grapple with rising rates of diet-related chronic conditions like obesity and heart disease. Simultaneously, food insecurity has become a growing concern in affluent nations. These complex issues have elevated nutrition to a political priority, creating unprecedented demand for skilled public health nutritionists across diverse sectors.
The UN's designation of 2016-2025 as the Nutrition Decade underscores the timeliness of developing expertise in this field. With over 800 million facing hunger, one-third affected by hidden hunger, and one in nine dealing with overweight or obesity, significant progress remains needed to meet global targets. These nutrition goals are fundamental to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, and our program examines health's role in this ambitious agenda.
You'll engage with policy development, leadership frameworks, and governance structures while critically analyzing the political and social factors influencing policy effectiveness. The curriculum challenges you to devise innovative solutions for global food system challenges, including climate change impacts and food waste reduction.
Course modules investigate diet-disease relationships, nutritional science foundations, public health epidemiology, research methodologies, assessment tools, and program development strategies. You'll gain exposure to key stakeholders and develop professional competencies that enhance your employability as a reflective public health practitioner.
Program Structure: Our diverse assessment methods prepare you for real-world challenges through presentations, policy analyses, program proposals, data interpretation, media productions, and health system evaluations. The Association for Nutrition accredits this program for Public Health Nutritionist registration, with additional certification opportunities through the World Public Health Nutrition Association.
Career Prospects: Graduates pursue varied career paths in policy development with organizations like Public Health England, advisory roles with health departments, or positions in nutrition-focused agencies. Beyond specialist knowledge, you'll cultivate transferable skills in communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and organizational management essential for professional success.
