The Expanded Photography MA program approaches photography as a broad discipline, incorporating specialized areas like virtual photography, photobooks, documentary work, artistic expression, fashion imagery, editorial content, photojournalism, and photographic writing.
This program encourages you to acquire technical abilities, build understanding, and broaden your proficiency in both the theory and application of photography. You'll develop the confidence to create innovative independent work while being encouraged to approach expanded photography with creativity, ethical consideration, and sustainability within our fast-evolving visual culture and worldwide context.
The curriculum blends photographic techniques with visual literacy training, exposing you to cutting-edge technologies including 3D scanning, artificial intelligence, and computer-generated imagery. You'll develop professional visual competencies and understanding of wide-ranging practices relevant to today's varied creative sectors within photographic visual culture and related industries.
A minimum of an upper second class honours degree (2:1) or a lower second class honours degree (2:2) with relevant experience in related subject areas. Applicants are required to submit a portfolio of recent practice projects. This should be presented in digital form and be annotated to demonstrate the progression from brief or inspiration through to completion. All images should be fully captioned with date of completion, size and medium used. Applicants will also need to identify in writing (maximum 500 words) a specific area of personal interest, which they envisage studying in depth whilst on the course. Interviews will be held online. If your first language is not English you should have an IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.5 in writing and no element below 6.0. TOEFL -88 overall with a minimum of 17 in Listening, 21 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking.
