The Master of Arts in Art and Emerging Technologies investigates cutting-edge uses of creative technologies in artistic endeavors, cultivating advanced digital competencies while examining their societal, cultural, and ecological implications.

Students will learn to view technological tools as fundamental components of artistic creation, undertaking a path of discovery to identify novel approaches that enhance their creative work. This could involve working alongside technological systems, leveraging human-machine interfaces, developing cross-platform storytelling methods, building participatory experiences, designing responsive objects, and reshaping both virtual and physical environments.

Through studio work and specialized labs, participants gain hands-on experience with pioneering technologies including VR/AR systems, location-based tools, virtual filmmaking techniques, 3D scanning, electronic prototyping, programming for creative purposes, sensor systems, smart textiles, immersive installations, and innovative AI applications in the arts.

Qualification Requirements

A minimum of an upper second class honours degree (2:1) or a lower second class honours degree (2:2) with relevant experience in related subject areas. Applicants are required to submit a portfolio of recent practice projects. This should be presented in digital form and be annotated to demonstrate the progression from brief or inspiration through to completion. All images should be fully captioned with date of completion, size and medium used. Applicants will also need to identify in writing (maximum 500 words) a specific area of personal interest, which they envisage studying in depth whilst on the course. Interviews will be held online. If your first language is not English you should have an IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.5 in writing and no element below 6.0.  TOEFL 88 overall with a minimum of 17 in Listening, 21 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking.
