Our Foundation year degree programs provide a pathway to prepare students for advanced studies before transitioning to a complete honors degree at the University of Westminster.
Whether you seek to enhance your knowledge and skills for degree-level education or wish to shift your academic focus, we welcome a diverse range of students to undertake our Foundation year as a stepping stone to a full honors degree.
The Architecture and Design Foundation year introduces students to creative professions that influence interior, building, and urban design. Through hands-on projects, you'll explore spatial, technical, and cultural concepts while building foundational skills and creative methodologies for further education. The initial semester starts with an investigation of urban space design and habitation, followed by a materials and fabrication project in our state-of-the-art Fabrication Laboratory at the Marylebone campus. Complementary studio and field exercises will enhance your drawing and creative abilities. The second semester features a project redesigning existing spaces, culminating in a self-directed creative endeavor. Foundation students will have the chance to showcase their work at the School of Architecture and Cities summer exhibition. Throughout both semesters, academic modules will strengthen your writing and critical thinking abilities alongside practical development.
