The MPhil/PhD program in Caribbean Studies enables students to explore the Caribbean region through interdisciplinary and cross-cultural lenses. The Yesu Persaud Centre for Caribbean Studies provides diverse research opportunities, spanning topics from 18th-century slavery to contemporary disaster law and cultural studies.
Our department welcomes new students at the beginning of each academic year. You'll collaborate with your supervisor to develop a personalized annual study plan. Your research project will evolve through independent work and scheduled supervisory meetings.
Annually, faculty members in your discipline will review and evaluate your progress. The program culminates in a thesis - an original 80,000-word scholarly work (not including footnotes, bibliography or appendices) on your chosen topic, which you'll defend in a viva voce examination before internal and external examiners.
