Biological Sciences explores biology in its most comprehensive form, examining everything from microscopic molecules to vast ecosystems. Among the four degree programs offered by the School of Life Sciences, this one provides the greatest diversity and flexibility in module selection. You'll delve into the fundamental building blocks of life—molecules and cells—as well as the biology of organisms (including animals, plants, bacteria, and viruses) and populations (covering evolution, disease spread, and ecological systems).
Course overview
Our Biological Sciences program encompasses all levels of biological organization, from molecular processes to ecosystem dynamics. With an extensive selection of optional modules, you can tailor your studies to align with your interests and career goals.
You'll engage with pioneering research in molecular, cellular, and organismal biology while addressing pressing global issues like environmental conservation, food sustainability, and public health.
Our four-year MBio with Industrial Placement includes a year-long research project in a professional setting during your final year.
Placements and work experience
In your last year, you'll complete a 12-month industrial research placement. Past students have worked with organizations such as the Assisted Reproduction Unit at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, AstraZeneca in Sweden, GSK, and Novartis. These placements involve supervised research across diverse scientific fields, enhancing skills in scientific communication, data analysis, and technology.
While placements aren't guaranteed, we provide substantial assistance to help you secure one. Many BSc and MBio students also opt for work experience during breaks, which we encourage and support through application guidance and interview preparation.
