This MASc program in Community, Engagement, and Belonging is delivered by the Liberal Arts Department in collaboration with the Warwick Institute of EngagementLink opens in a new window. This distinctive, cross-disciplinary program prepares students to become tomorrow's thought leaders by connecting knowledge-producing institutions (including universities, research centers, and businesses) with diverse communities worldwide.

The foundational modules concentrate on cultivating meaningful collaborations with community groups. Students will learn to analyze and address the divide between academic knowledge and public needs, fostering environments for constructive exchange and creative solutions. These essential courses provide both the theoretical framework and research methodologies for rigorous study. Additionally, students can personalize their degree by selecting electives from across the University, aligning their studies with personal academic interests and professional aspirations. Our Liberal Arts Department offers specialized guidance to help students identify relevant courses that complement their community engagement focus.

The program concludes with an immersive capstone project where students produce original, interdisciplinary work grounded in evidence. They may opt for either a traditional Research Dissertation or a hands-on Community-Based Learning Dissertation. This choice enables students to pursue projects that best match their academic curiosity or career objectives. The Research Dissertation encourages innovative, interdisciplinary exploration of topics within Community, Engagement, or Belonging across any era or region. Alternatively, the Community-Based Learning Dissertation involves practical collaboration with community organizations, supported by our Employability and Placement Manager and potential mentorship from the Warwick Institute of Engagement. All students receive personalized supervision from Liberal Arts faculty to maximize their project's impact.

Upon completion, graduates will be equipped to lead in cross-sector community engagement, possessing both the insight and skills to create meaningful change in local and global communities.
