This program explores the intellectual and political roots of International Development, covering pivotal events and themes that have influenced its growth, along with key topics addressed (and overlooked) in both academic research and practical applications. You'll study the International Development framework established by the Bretton Woods System, UN agencies, and governmental/non-governmental initiatives within the historical backdrop of colonialism and modern globalization.
We emphasize the interconnectedness of theory and practice—real-world challenges inspire theoretical frameworks, while theories guide our approach to tangible issues. Students will gain expertise in drafting policy documents and honing skills to transform analytical thought into actionable solutions.
Our curriculum features a dynamic mix of core and elective courses blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on application. This academic foundation is strengthened through engagement with WICIDLink opens in a new window, based in PAIS, where MA students can attend events, contribute to the Think Development BlogLink opens in a new window, and connect with scholars, policymakers, and practitioners.
Participants can take active roles in the Warwick Global Development SocietyLink opens in a new window and the annual student-organized Development Conference, providing further platforms to develop professional competencies and apply yearlong learning to shape conference programming.
