In public discussions, policy debates, and scholarly studies concerning globalization and international development, education assumes multiple, sometimes conflicting roles. It is frequently hailed as a universal remedy—a key to reducing global disparities and driving economic and social progress. Conversely, education is also criticized for failing to meet expectations or even perpetuating the very issues it aimed to resolve. Educational systems and institutions are themselves shaped by globalization trends and shifts in development and aid policies.
We are now entering a post-development phase, where traditional distinctions between "developed" and "developing" regions no longer hold. The intricate interplay of local, regional, and global dynamics necessitates a renewed approach to analyzing education's role in modern society. Educational policies and practices must evolve to address heightened mobility (and immobility), shifting political landscapes, and the fluid connection between education and societal transformation.
The MA in Global Education and International Development tackles a wide range of interconnected challenges within education, broadly defined. This program bridges theoretical and conceptual inquiries with practical applications for educators and development initiatives. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a placement module, strengthening professional skills and career prospects.
