Philosophical and literary texts both invite profound contemplation of human existence, though they frequently employ distinct approaches. Our Philosophy and Literature (BA) program allows you to explore the diverse tools and human faculties—including thought experiments, dialogues, arguments, narrative techniques, conceptual examination, creativity, and emotion—that foster intellectual exploration and comprehension.
This program provides rigorous training in both disciplines while offering considerable flexibility in specialization. The first year features an interdisciplinary core module that bridges Philosophy and Literature, followed by a core module and extensive elective choices in subsequent years, including interdisciplinary combinations. Students can pursue a jointly supervised thesis or independent project blending both fields. Throughout all years, you'll select modules from both departments, with an unrestricted third-year elective option.
An optional intercalated year—for international study or professional experience—extends the program to four years. This third year abroad or on placement will be noted in your final degree title (e.g., BA Philosophy and Literature with Intercalated Year).
