At Sussex, we embrace music technologies in their broadest interpretation—ranging from crafting instruments and studio production to pioneering innovative musical expressions through augmented reality and virtual platforms. For those passionate about exploring, innovating, and performing with cutting-edge musical technologies, this is your ideal environment. Create a portfolio showcasing groundbreaking work that pushes the boundaries of music technology, alongside a 20,000-40,000-word dissertation presenting original research. Your dissertation should illustrate how your work contributes significantly to your field, while engaging with established scholarship and artistic traditions. You'll utilize state-of-the-art software and hardware in the Jonathan Harvey Electronic Music Studio at the Attenborough Centre for Creative Arts. Additionally, you'll join the Experimental Music Technologies Lab, a hub for research in emerging music technologies, and collaborate with the Sussex Humanities Lab.
