You have the option to pursue either a PhD or MPhil degree. These programs vary in length and research scope.

A PhD requires your research to significantly advance knowledge in your selected field with original contributions.
An MPhil involves independent research, though not as comprehensive as a PhD. Upon completion, you'll earn a Master of Philosophy degree. There may be opportunities to transition from an MPhil to a PhD during your studies.

Qualification Requirements

Degree requirements: You’re normally expected to have a Merit (an average of 60% of overall) in a Master’s degree and an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree. Subject-specific requirements: Your qualification should be in international relations or a closely related subject area. In exceptional circumstances, you may be considered for the degree if you have a qualification in a different subject area. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing. We also offer a 1+3 route incorporating the MSc in Social Research Methods or further specialist research training modules within Year 1 for those without the required research training. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic) High level (6.5 overall, including at least 6.0 in each component); TOEFL (iBT) - 88 overall, including at least 20 in Listening, 19 in Reading, 21 in Speaking, 23 in Writing.
