Numerous fields in biology depend on molecular-level investigations and molecular biology techniques for gene and protein manipulation. Our MSc program prepares you to be a hands-on researcher in this dynamic area.

A significant portion of your studies will involve tackling actual biological challenges in an active research lab environment. You'll work closely with your supervisor and integrate into their research team.

Through partnerships with the Genome Damage and Stability Centre, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and Sussex Neuroscience, you'll gain exposure to pioneering research initiatives spanning diverse aspects of contemporary bioscience.

You'll have access to our advanced research infrastructure, including the Sussex Centre for Advanced Microscopy.

Qualification Requirements

You should normally have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above.

Subject-specific requirements
Your qualification should be in a relevant science subject, such as biochemistry, biomedical science, genetics, cell biology. If your qualification is in another subject area we would normally make our offer at the upper second-class (2.1) level. You may also be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.

IELTS (Academic) - Standard level (6.0 overall, including at least 5.5 in each component).
TOEFL (iBT) - 80 overall, including at least 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking, 17 in Writing.
