Our faculty members are distinguished specialists actively engaged in research across both sides of the Atlantic. You'll receive mentorship and supervision for your research project from top professionals in their disciplines. RESEARCH FIELDS We encourage applications for studies examining the social and political history of the United States. Our primary research concentrations include: racial dynamics in America from slavery to the civil rights movement, the Black Power movement and contemporary Black Lives Matter activism, Cold War studies and post-WWII transnational developments, international race relations, the Civil War period, and historical patterns of racial violence in America. We offer both PhD and MPhil degree options. These programs vary in length and research scope. A PhD requires your work to present significant original contributions to your field of study. An MPhil involves independent research with a narrower focus than a PhD, culminating in a Master of Philosophy degree. Students may have the opportunity to transition from an MPhil to a PhD during their studies.
