In Chemistry studies, you'll explore matter's fundamental components at atomic and molecular levels.

Sussex connects you with pioneering chemists whose groundbreaking research influences global challenges across fields like:

sustainable energy solutions
pharmaceutical development (Sussex Drug Discovery Centre)
oncology research
nanoscale magnetic materials.
Your journey begins with core subjects before branching into specialized electives that customize your academic path. Potential study areas include:

pharmaceutical molecular architecture and innovative drug formulation
quantum chemistry techniques
cutting-edge polymerization catalysts.
This program offers annual summer research placements (contingent on academic standing) where you'll collaborate with faculty teams. Participants receive living expense support, while Master's students refine research expertise alongside department chemists. These experiences equip graduates for scientific research or diverse professional pathways.

GCSEs
You will normally need GCSE (or equivalent) Mathematics and two Science subjects with grade 5 in each (or grade B).

Extended Project Qualification
We take the EPQ into account when considering your application and it can be useful in the summer when your results are released if you have narrowly missed the conditions of your offer.
