At Sussex University, we define Applied Linguistics as putting linguistic theory into real-world practice. This field covers diverse areas from how we learn languages to analyzing language in legal settings and cross-cultural interactions.

As the global lingua franca, English facilitates international communication across sectors including academia, marketing, and corporate communications. Through studying TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), you'll develop insights into language's societal roles and practical applications of linguistic research.

Our Linguistics and language education specialists will guide you in understanding language structures, usage patterns, acquisition processes, and intercultural competencies.

This program is ideal if you:

hold a bachelor's degree in Linguistics, English, or Modern Languages seeking advanced study
come from any academic background or work in ELT and want to enhance your professional credentials with a postgraduate degree.
