In our pursuit of sustainability and lower carbon emissions, Mechanical Engineering principles play a vital role in creating a greener, more secure world. Our Mechanical Engineering BEng program equips you with the skills to guide cross-functional teams in designing sophisticated systems. These encompass eco-friendly power generation, automotive powertrains, and aircraft propulsion systems.

Sussex University conducts cutting-edge research that enhances your learning experience. Our Dynamics, Control and Vehicle Research Group alongside the Thermo-Fluid Mechanics Research Center pioneer advancements in vehicle technologies and high-efficiency aircraft engines, among other innovations.

You'll learn in our advanced Future Technologies Labs, featuring computer workstations and modern automation/robotics equipment. Our specialized manufacturing lab boasts top-tier resources including CNC machinery and 3D printing technology. Through elective courses, you can focus on disciplines like CAD or computational fluid dynamics, while hands-on projects allow exploration of control systems, vibration analysis, tribology, or aerodynamics – including participation in Formula Student and wind-powered vehicle initiatives.

A-levels must include Mathematics, with at least grade B.

GCSEs
You should have a broad range of GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C), including good grades in relevant subjects.

Extended Project Qualification
We take the EPQ into account when considering your application and it can be useful in the summer when your results are released if you have narrowly missed the conditions of your offer. We do not routinely include the EPQ in the conditions of your offer but we sometimes offer alternative conditions that include the EPQ.

International Baccalaureate
Typical offer
30 -32 points overall from the full IB Diploma.

Subjects
Higher Levels must include Mathematics, with a grade of 5.

For entry, either Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level will be accepted.
