Human communities across the globe exhibit remarkable diversity in their traditions, social structures, and ways of life. As an Anthropology student, you'll examine this rich tapestry of cultural expressions. Your studies will focus on how different populations address modern challenges - including climate crises, healthcare disparities, ecological threats, racial inequity, gender violence, and fundamental freedoms.

At Sussex, you'll be taught by leading researchers engaged in solving pressing societal issues. Our faculty shapes discussions on critical matters like equity movements, LGBTQ+ lived experiences, modern slavery patterns, fair trade practices, and interfaith tensions.

We emphasize cross-disciplinary approaches. Your program will challenge you to examine worldwide concerns through multiple lenses. You'll have chances to pursue original research and participate in field studies. Our varied curriculum covers subjects such as:

identity, embodiment and intimate relationships
systemic racism and equality movements
documentary filmmaking and sensory ethnography
financial instability, unpaid labor and platform work
postcolonial power struggles and armed confrontations.
Through your education, you'll develop capabilities to enact meaningful change. Upon completing your degree, you'll be prepared for careers in fields including:

nonprofits and international aid agencies
communications
