In this program, you'll be taught by one of the UK's most extensive academic teams specializing in American Studies. Our instruction is grounded in innovative research spanning diverse areas such as US culture, imperialism, gender studies, social justice movements, women's history, American literature and philosophy, and the intersection of literature with science.
Throughout your studies, you'll:
investigate themes connected to North American history, literature, politics, and popular culture
master theoretical frameworks in American Studies focusing on race, class, gender, and sexuality
develop skills to critically evaluate various media forms, from music and art to film, monuments, and speeches
refine your abilities in both oral and written communication
join our vibrant student community, which hosts events like an international speaker seminar series.
A standout feature of this program is your immersive year abroad in North America, where you'll expand your horizons and gain confidence. We collaborate with esteemed institutions across the continent, from UC Berkeley to Georgetown University.
Upon graduation, you'll be equipped for diverse career paths—whether in broadcasting, government, research, journalism, marketing, or nonprofit work.
Your third year will be spent at one of our partner universities in the US or Canada. These institutions reflect the breadth of American life and include:
